During the coming two weeks more than 90 Caribbean Soldiers will be training together on the island of Curaçao during exercise Caribbean Strike. The exercise takes place in the areas of Wacao, Ascension and Santa Cruz Beach.
On Tuesday June 10 the Aruban Military stepped on board of the support vessel HNLMS Pelikaan, which brought them from Aruba to Curaçao. There they train together various military skills with Curaçaoan soldiers, including tactical infiltration in an area, reconnaissance patrols, carrying out attacks and ambushes, various shooting exercises and performing in urban areas. The exercises are carried out at various locations, including the military training area at Wacao, in the vicinity of Ascencion and around Playa Santa Cruz. The units will then be moving between the various training areas in military vehicles.
Professionalization
Caribbean Strike is part of the professional development of the Caribbean military. By intensively training in realistic scenarios, the readiness and deployability of both the Aruban and Curaçaoan units are further strengthened. Exercises such as these are essential to optimally prepare the military for their tasks in countries, including providing assistance in the event of crises or calamities.
