Scouting Aruba and partners give meaning to ‘Good Deeds Day’ with visits to our seniors

As part of the global ‘Good Deeds Day’ movement, Scouting Aruba led a beautiful initiative where youth and adults joined forces to provide attention and love to the older generation in our community.

For this special occasion, Scouting Aruba worked closely with the Youth Parliament, Poder di Hubentud, and the Believe in Yourself Foundation. The primary objective was to bring a gesture of appreciation to the residents of nursing homes across our island, combining food donations with something even more valuable: time and companionship.

Personal and Meaningful Interaction Under the leadership of HKC Adelin Trimon-Geerman and with the support of HC Dave Martinus and the board of Scouting Aruba, a structured strategy was chosen. Instead of visiting with large groups, small delegations were sent. This decision was made to ensure a peaceful environment for the seniors, allowing for more personal and meaningful interaction between the youth and the residents.

During the visits, it became clear that the greatest value was not the products delivered, but the opportunity to “bridge the generational gap.” The visits and conversations opened doors for the youth to learn to value the efforts of those who worked for the development of our country.

Gratitude and Commitment The activity concluded with a pleasant ceremony under the shade of the trees, where all volunteers, drivers, and contributors were thanked. Participants shared their emotional experiences and received a certificate of participation along with a “goodie bag” as a token of appreciation for their voluntary work.

Scouting Aruba emphasized that a project of this magnitude is only possible with the support of the commercial sector. They extended a special word of thanks to: Ecotech, Martijn Trading, Romar Trading, Subway, Oduber Agencies, Caribbean Print Center, Satex, El Louvre, Windcreek Hotel, Divi & Tamarijn All Inclusive Hotel, Tec NV, La Moderna, Costa Linda, and the employees of Costa Linda Hotel for their generous contributions.

Global Movement Good Deeds Day is an initiative celebrated in more than 110 countries worldwide, where millions of volunteers mobilize to do good in their communities. Scouting Aruba, serving as the driver of this initiative in Aruba, invites the community to begin preparing for the next edition. Next year, Good Deeds Day 2027 will take place on April 18, where they hope to continue growing this positive impact on our island.
