The government itself is cutting off its own tax revenue received from all ATV and UTV companies

Gobierno Mes Ta Caba Cu Su Propio Entrada Di Belasting Ricibi Door Di Tur E Companianan Di Atv Y Utv

In recent days, George Vieira, owner of George Cycle Rental, expressed his dissatisfaction with how the government implemented the decision to limit ATV and UTV routes. Vieira, who has 49 years of experience in the industry, emphasizes that tour companies are the ones most interested in taking care of Aruba’s nature, because it is the main attraction they present to tourists.

According to Vieira, this decision was made without consulting all involved stakeholders. In a meeting with several parliamentarians, they pointed out the error in the decision, yet it was ignored. Vieira noted that he had sent several emails to different ministers, including the minister in charge of DOW, Mr. René Herde, but they have not received any response.

Vieira explains that he is seeking a solution by mapping out routes that would allow for transit along the north coast while ensuring vehicles stay within designated areas of the park. He proposes a park model on the north coast with a single route for all vehicles that wish to pass, avoiding the current situation where vehicles take different paths and cause constant damage.

Vieira stresses that the concept of the route and map is good, but unfortunately, there is a lack of focus on finding a solution. He explains that the route and map should be finalized to avoid “closing roads on a whim.” Vieira suggests plotting the routes on the map and then adjusting them according to ROP and ROPV laws. This would be a “win-win” situation for Aruba, protecting its nature while securing the income generated by the sector.
