COLECTIVA 2 brings together eight artists from different generations and styles:
Glenda Heyliger, Sharina Gumbs, Elly Refunjol, Kenna Foxford, Lenny Lea, Dimanche-Jolie, Tuesday Irwin and Hugo Parra.
The project is part of the experimental program of the Art Rap Foundation, developed at its venue ZEER TROPISCH Art House, where art emerges directly from within the community.
This relational curatorial method does not seek to confront individual opinions, but to work with what is evident—what exists in daily life, in the memories and emotions of the San Nicolas community.
COLECTIVA 2 was born from a Drawing Club exploring the relationship between art and the bar culture of San Nicolas, including the dancers who are part of the nightlife and who have always been documented through art. They were invited to participate as models and interlocutors within the Club, where observation, dialogue and artistic gestures created an act of recognition and reciprocity.
This exhibition continues a previous project dedicated to barbers and tattoo artists, forming part of a series of actions aimed at activating the San Nicolas community through its own local practices. With a new focus on bar culture, we seek to question how we can become a community of encounter, resilience and expression. The Art Rap Foundation aims to contribute to creating and strengthening different perspectives that can stimulate public perception and activate the community through its culture and economic ecosystem.
At its core, COLECTIVA 2 is the collective result of observation, with the intention of understanding the spirit of our place through simple drawings that document our presence and human interaction.
