Member of Parliament Hendrick Tevreden has brought clarity and framed a strong position regarding the delegation’s visit to the Raad van State (Council of State). According to Tevreden, the information that recently appeared in the media and was shared by Minister Gerlien Croes does not reflect the actual opinion of this advisory body.
During the visit to the Raad van State, the delegation had the opportunity to dialogue and share thoughts on the advice issued by this organ. Tevreden emphasized the importance for the public to fully understand the reality behind the so-called “Kingdom dossier” (Koninkrijksdossier) that was published in the Dutch press.
Tevreden explained that what was published in the media does not reflect the opinion that the Raad van State formally advised. “What the media outlet published is rather part of an internal deliberation, and not the structural view of the Raad van State itself in its advice,” the MP stated.
He added that he personally sat down and spoke directly with the Raad van State, where it was confirmed that “in no way” do those publications represent their official position.
A major point of concern for Tevreden is the fact that the Minister of Kingdom Relations encountered this report in the media and chose to publish it on her Facebook page, insinuating that this represents the viewpoint of the Raad van State.
Tevreden delivered a clear message to the community: “The post that the Minister made on her Facebook does not align with the reality that the delegation heard and verified with the Raad van State. It is regrettable that a minister uses this type of information without the necessary verification.”
This situation, according to Tevreden, naturally paves the way for a deep debate in Parliament. The main goal of this debate will be to clarify the matter and to show that what the media publishes does not always align with the actual viewpoint of the institutions involved.
The MP hopes that the public will also take note of this and remain alert to the fact that the information circulating is not based on correct facts.
