Recognized by visitors for their positive impact and contributions to local tourism
During the Aruba Global Travel Conference (AGTC) on September 15, the Aruba Tourism Authority (A.T.A.) honored three dedicated tourism workers as the 2026 Local Vacation Heroes. Maidel Yero, John Marvin Kelly, and Jandor Lampe were recognized for their long-standing experience, positive impact, and contributions to the island’s hospitality industry.
The three awardees represent distinct sectors of the tourism industry:
- Maidel Yero: With 24 years of tourism experience, she works in Activities & Entertainment at Playa Linda Beach Resort and is known for the heart and passion she brings to creating memorable experiences for guests of all ages.
- Jandor Lampe: A bartender at La Cabana Beach Resort & Casino with 28 years in the industry, he is recognized for his positive energy, contagious enthusiasm, and warm hospitality.
- John Marvin Kelly: Affectionately known as “Uncle Johnny,” he is a tour guide at ABC Tours with over 40 years of experience, renowned for treating every guest like family with unwavering dedication.
For the third consecutive year, the Nominate Your Local Vacation Hero campaign allowed visitors to nominate local residents who made a meaningful difference during their stay. In just three weeks, over 160 nominations were submitted, sharing stories of kindness, care, and authentic connections.
What makes this award particularly meaningful is that nominations come directly from the guests themselves, reflecting personal experiences and appreciation for those who made their visit memorable. Over the campaign’s three editions, more than 400 total nominations have been received, with a dedicated committee evaluating submissions based on established criteria to ensure representation across various roles.
“This recognition celebrates the individuals who, day in and day out, deliver the service, care, and hospitality that Aruba is known for.
