Through this press release, the AVP Faction informs that they will not participate in the session organized by the PPA party on June 16, 2026, regarding the topic of HOFA (Houdbare Overheidsfinanciën Aruba / Sustainable Public Finances Aruba).
AVP recognizes that HOFA is a topic of great importance for the financial future of Aruba and that it deserves a broad, serious, and transparent debate. However, the faction considers that a matter which could have profound implications for the governance, finances, and fiscal sustainability of our country must be treated within an appropriate institutional framework, with access to complete information and the participation of all relevant actors.
According to the AVP Faction, the natural forum to address this topic is the Parliament of Aruba, where elected representatives of the people have the constitutional responsibility to evaluate, question, and debate proposals that affect the future of our country. This is where parliamentarians can ask questions, analyze official documents, and hold the government accountable for the proposed decisions.
AVP emphasizes that the discussion regarding HOFA is not limited to political considerations alone, but also involves legal, financial, and constitutional aspects that require in-depth study and technical evaluation. Among the important documents that must form part of the evaluation process is the advice from the Council of State (Raad van State).
The AVP Faction considers that participating in a session organized by a political party could create the false impression that this type of gathering substitutes a democratic and official debate. “We do not wish to contribute to any perception that a political-partisan activity can replace the institutional process that our parliamentary democracy demands. The official debate must take place within Parliament, with the participation of all elected representatives,” AVP expressed.
The faction reaffirms that it will continue to participate in all official discussions regarding HOFA and will evaluate any proposal based on what is in the best interest of Aruba.
