Recently, Commissioner Timoteo Silberie and a policy advisor from the Community and Care Directorate of the Public Entity Bonaire participated in the Family Justice Center Capitol Hill Days & Leadership Summit in Washington D.C. During this international gathering, knowledge was exchanged regarding the management of domestic violence, child abuse, elder abuse, and other forms of domestic violence.

The knowledge acquired during this meeting aligns perfectly with the ongoing process to establish a Family Justice Center (FJC) in Bonaire. On Tuesday, June 9, 2026, a meeting took place to begin working together with chain partners on how to shape the FJC in the future.

Representatives from KPCN, Guiami, Akseso, Zorg- en Veiligheidshuis, Krusada, Tabitha, Reclassering, Mental Health Caribbean (MHC), and the Guardianship Board (Voogdijraad) were present.

During the meeting, the following topics were discussed:

Joint management of domestic violence, child abuse, and elder abuse;

Collaboration between different organizations;

Preparation of a cooperation agreement;

All services and support that partners can offer from within the FJC.

The Family Justice Center will become a safe and accessible place where residents can go to receive help, protection, and guidance. By bringing different organizations together under one roof, victims and families will be able to receive better and faster assistance.

“We are not just working on a building, but primarily on a lasting collaborative relationship where providing help, care, and safety strengthen one another. The completion of the Family Justice Center is drawing near. In the coming period, we will actively inform the community about everything the center offers and about the importance of timely reporting and support in cases of domestic violence and other forms of abuse,” Commissioner Timoteo Silberie stated.
