“It is no longer acceptable”: Public workers (Police) denounce inhumane conditions in their workplace

An alarming situation of structural deterioration is seriously affecting a government department, where workers have broken their silence to denounce what they consider inhumane conditions. What should be a professional environment has become a health hazard and a blow to staff morale. This concerns the police force building, specifically the Driver’s License Department. This is what the president of the SPA Rodney Solognier  (Aruban Police Union) made known

Danger to Health and Safety

The details that have come to light paint a worrying picture of the building. It is not just a lack of basic maintenance, but grave structural problems that put the well-being of workers at risk:

  • Presence of Mold: Staff confirmed the presence of mold (schimmel) in the building, a situation that directly affects air quality.
  • Roof and Ceiling Deterioration: The roof is in such poor condition that the ceiling is coming down, while the air conditioning systems are not functioning properly, creating a suffocating environment.
  • Lack of Hygiene: The place is described as a dirty site, where the lack of deep cleaning and maintenance is visible to everyone who enters; the walls are peeling, and there is a bitter smell inside the building.

The workers have categorized this situation as “too much” and “totally unacceptable” for any human being to function in.

A Direct Complaint: “The place breaks our spirit”

For the staff, this situation carries a high emotional cost. Although they have a great love for their work and want to continue serving the community with professionalism, the physical conditions of the place are breaking their motivation. “They want to continue working with the love they have for their job, but the place itself is breaking their spirit and their way of working.” The feeling of exhaustion has reached its breaking point; the staff has no more room to listen to empty promises that are not fulfilled.

Urgency: “ASAP” Solution

This complaint serves as a maximum alert for the Minister in charge and government agencies, as well as the high command responsible for the management of the KPA (Aruba Police Force). After giving many opportunities to fix the situation, the staff demands an answer and a solution “ASAP” (as soon as possible).

The reality is that the situation is getting worse day by day, and the workers are not willing to continue sacrificing their health in a building that is no longer fit to function as a government office. Both the community and the staff remain waiting for concrete action to end this infrastructure crisis.
