Minister Geoffrey Wever: Government subsidizes gasoline and diesel price hike again to mitigate impact on community

Minister Geoffrey Wever

Minister of Finance, Economic Affairs, and Primary Sector Geoffrey Wever has announced that the AVP-FUTURO Cabinet is subsidizing the price of gasoline and diesel for the month of June 2026. The investment for this month is approximately Afl. 2.5 million, aimed at protecting the purchasing power of our consumers and merchants.

Starting June 10, 2026, consumers will pay Afl. 2.765 per liter of gasoline and Afl. 2.57 per liter of diesel. The price of kerosene will decrease from Afl. 3.02 to Afl. 2.72 per liter. Without the government subsidy, a liter of gasoline would have cost Afl. 3.05 — which is Afl. 0.28 more per liter. For diesel, the difference is Afl. 0.35 per liter.

“For us, it is extremely important to keep helping our consumers and merchants. The rise in gasoline and diesel prices weighs heavily on the expenses of our citizens and our businesses. For that reason, we have decided to allocate new funds to lower the price for the month of June,” said Minister Geoffrey Wever.

The AVP-FUTURO Cabinet achieves this by extending the excise duty reduction that was in effect during the months of April and May 2026. The total reduction in excise duty is 24.6 cents per liter on gasoline and 29.8 cents per liter on diesel. Excise duty is a key tool in economic management that the Government uses to protect our community against drastic price increases in international petroleum products.

Global oil prices remain high. The war situation in Iran and the uncertainty surrounding the opening of the Strait of Hormuz continue to create volatility in the international oil market. This makes the Government’s decision even more crucial for the Aruban community.

This decision is in line with the AVP-FUTURO 2025–2028 Governing Program, which stipulates on page 36 that the goal is to lower the price of gasoline and diesel by reducing excise duties. The AVP-FUTURO Cabinet will continue to monitor the situation and will communicate any new decisions in a timely manner to mitigate the impact of international prices on the purchasing power of all Arubans.
