The Ministry of VROMI and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) have signed a Letter of Intent to collaborate on developing a national mobility improvement program for Sint Maarten.

The agreement focuses on technical assistance to improve traffic management, road safety, and mobility. UNOPS will support VROMI and partner ministries in creating a roadmap to assess traffic flows, congestion, and safety risks, while identifying both short- and long-term solutions.

Minister Patrice Gumbs emphasized the need for updated, data-driven studies and public consultations to ensure inclusive and effective solutions. UNOPS Regional Director Dalila Gonçalves highlighted the importance of sustainable, evidence-based mobility systems for resilient development in Small Island Developing States.

The initiative will engage stakeholders across government, the private sector, and the community and aligns with the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. The Letter of Intent will later be formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding.
