During Thursday morning’s Neighborhood Action, Prime Minister Mike Eman visited the Dakota Community and Sports Center, where he took a tour of the facility and learned firsthand about the various activities and projects the center develops for the community.
The president of the Dakota Community and Sports Center, Carlmichael Bikker, described the visit as important for the center’s future development. According to Bikker, PM Eman had expressed his intention a few months ago to visit the facility to personally observe the work taking place there.
During the tour, the Prime Minister met with the elderly group Flor di Aloe, among others, and received a comprehensive explanation of current projects and the board’s future ideas.
One of the center’s aspirations is to continue improving the surrounding area and create a greener, more pleasant environment with plants and flowers—a space where neighborhood seniors, in particular, can sit, socialize, and enjoy a peaceful moment.
Bikker emphasized that the role of a community center extends far beyond just providing a physical space.
“The Community Center is the heart of the neighborhood,” he expressed, noting that the center must remain active across generations in sports, education, culture, and the arts.
For example, the Dakota Community and Sports Center has computers and internet access available for children who lack these resources at home, allowing them to visit the center and complete their schoolwork.
Bikker expressed satisfaction with the visit and highlighted the importance of cooperation among the community, Government, and private organizations to ensure community centers can continue fulfilling their purpose.
“Every grain of sand helps make the Dakota Community and Sports Center better every time,” Bikker concluded.
