Following the installation of Mr. Dennis Martinus as the new commissioner on behalf of the MPB in the Executive Council of Bonaire, it can be reported that the handover of tasks and files by former commissioner Joselito Statia took place in an orderly manner.
Mr. Statia reviewed with Mr. Martinus the tasks related to current files and the state of affairs within his previous portfolio, in order to guarantee the continuity of governance. Statia clearly indicated that he is willing to support the new commissioner with advice and backing in the upcoming period.
Commissioner Martinus will continue, in the spirit of reliable and responsible governance, the relevant work within the framework stipulated by the UPB/MPB/Serberie Faction coalition as outlined in the Mini-Governance Program “Order | Stabilize | Advance” for the 2026–2027 period. This program emphasizes realistic and feasible governance for the remaining mandate until the Island Council elections in March 2027, prioritizing sound finances, infrastructure, waste management, broad prosperity, the granting of permits and law enforcement, public order and security, and good governance.
Commissioner Martinus emphasizes that these tasks are carried out in a collegial manner. The Island Governor (Gezaghebber) and the commissioners are dedicated to working together to bring structure, rebuild trust, and take concrete action on the urgent issues facing the Bonaire community during the limited remaining governance period.
