In recent years, Curaçao has experienced a rapid increase in the aging of its population. This aging is, in turn, one of the primary reasons for the rising numbers of people living with dementia.

Within the context of this aging population, the Alzheimer’s Foundation has provided services and information to the community on a voluntary basis for 26 years, through meetings and lectures organized regularly. In this way, the Alzheimer’s Foundation helps educate the community while simultaneously providing those who care for persons with Alzheimer’s with valuable tips on how to handle the situation.

Recognizing the valuable work the Alzheimer’s Foundation has been doing for 26 consecutive years, the MFK Faction presented a motion during the 2026 budget debates requesting that the Government evaluate the possibility of granting the Alzheimer’s Foundation a “one-time subsidy.”

The MFK Faction is extremely grateful that the Pisas III Cabinet, together with the Minister of Health, Tyron Boekhoudt, recently fulfilled this motion and granted a subsidy of 36,000.00 ANG to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, enabling them to continue their work.

During an information morning at the Brievengat Community Center, the president of the Alzheimer’s Foundation, Mrs. Chanerika Hellement, expressed words of gratitude to the Government for the financial support received. This financial support certainly provides the foundation with the necessary boost and strength to continue the work they have been doing for over 26 years.

The MFK Faction thanks the Pisas III Cabinet and Minister Tyron Boekhoudt for complying with the motion and, at the same time, wishes the Alzheimer’s Foundation much strength and wisdom to continue their good work.

For any questions or additional information, please contact the Member of Parliament for the MFK Faction, Mr. Ramón Yung
