More than 400 people visited the installation Martis di Katalina Janga: From Then to Now. Since July 27th, the people of Bonaire were able to visit Jong Bonaire and follow the powerful story of Martis di Katalina Janga through immersive audiovisual technology. Every day there were three sessions, each accommodating around 20 people. Due to high interest, some sessions welcomed up to 25 participants.
The feedback was overwhelmingly positive:
“Every child should see this.”
“Thanks to this work, I now know who Martis di Katalina Janga is. Amazing piece of art!”
Each session was followed by meaningful dialogues, where visitors shared their thoughts on Martis’ legacy, the ongoing fight for freedom, and the importance of knowing one’s roots. Questions like “If you don’t know your history, you don’t know who you are” and “If Martis were here today, would he be proud or angry?” sparked reflection and conversation.
The production was presented by SKAL, the NGO Platform, and in collaboration with Jong Bonaire. Special thanks goes to Boi Antoin and Fuhikubo for their valuable contributions to the content. The story was written by Segni Bernardina and directed and produced by Rogen Pineda and his team, who transformed Jong Bonaire into an impactful theatrical experience.
The installation also featured original music, composed and produced by Segni Bernardina in collaboration with Xechell and Xemio Jacobs. Each evening began with opening remarks from SKAL, followed by poetry and dance, and ended with a 30-minute immersive experience inside the transformed space.
SKAL extends heartfelt thanks to all who visited and announces that a permanent location is being sought, so that schools and the broader community can continue to engage with this powerful installation.
