The Immigration and Border Protection Services (IBPS) of Sint Maarten has issued an urgent warning to all travelers planning to travel to Anguilla for the upcoming Anguilla Summer Festival 2026, reminding them that a local residence permit does not replace a valid passport.
With the arrival of the festival, a large wave of travelers is preparing to leave Sint Maarten to enjoy the festivities. However, authorities emphasize that enthusiasm for the event does not exempt anyone from strictly complying with legal entry and exit requirements.
Valid Passport is Mandatory
According to the Anguilla Immigration Department, all visitors must be in possession of a valid passport. IBPS strongly advises travelers to check the validity of their passport before purchasing a travel ticket. A very common point of confusion among residents is that a Sint Maarten residence permit, local ID card, or any other local identification document does not serve as a substitute for a passport when traveling to Anguilla.
Attention for Travelers Requiring a Visa
Persons whose nationality requires a visa to enter Anguilla and who intend to stay overnight are required to apply for the visa at least two (2) weeks before their intended arrival date. Travelers are strongly advised to determine whether a visa is required for their specific nationality well in advance.
Travel Regulations by Sea (Vessels and Boats)
For those choosing to travel by private or commercial boat to Anguilla, the Anguilla Immigration Department has stipulated specific rules:
Official Port of Entry: All vessels must enter Anguilla exclusively through an official Port of Entry, namely the Blowing Point Ferry Terminal or the Marine Base at Sandy Ground.
Use of Agent and Sail Clear: Vessel owners are encouraged to use an agent where necessary to assist with clearance. The use of the digital platform Sail Clear is highly encouraged to expedite processing.
Mandatory Printed Copies: In addition to the digital system, vessel owners and captains must bring printed copies of their documentation and the passenger list in duplicate. Passenger lists must be fully completed and submitted to Immigration.

Authorities remind travelers that purchasing a ticket or having a vessel reservation does not guarantee entry if documents are not in order. To avoid disappointment or being denied boarding/entry, IBPS strongly encourages all travelers to:
Check the validity of their passport and those of accompanying children or traveling party members.
Verify whether a visa is required and apply on time via evisa.gov.ai.
Do not wait until the day of travel.
