While the suspect denies:Judge orders Rechter-Commissaris to interrogate female police officer who was allegedly harassed

Corte De Aruba

following the hearing of the case, the Judge postponed proceedings and ordered the Rechter-Commissaris (Examining Judge) to interrogate the female police officer, J. It was understood that the accused, C., denies having touched the woman J., and defense attorney Mr. Rosenstand requested to hear several witnesses to gain clarity. The Judge decided to hear the female police officer herself.

Suspected of harassing female police officer The man C. (43) appeared before the Judge yesterday morning, where the Prosecutor charged him with committing indecent acts against the woman J. on June 15, 2025. This allegedly took place in a bar in San Nicolas, where C. reportedly squeezed J.’s buttocks. The Judge noted that the woman J. stated she was at a bar in San Nicolas when C. arrived. In the past, C. had a relationship with her. According to J., C. gave her a kiss and squeezed her buttocks.

Suspect denies charges C. denied touching the woman J. According to C., he entered the bar and friends told him that a woman kept staring at him. C. told the Judge he signaled to the woman, and J. walked over to him. He told J. it was his birthday, and J. gave him a kiss. According to C., he did not touch J. He stated that at one point, J. grabbed him by the neck and told him, “don’t touch me.” A friend of C. intervened and separated them. J. then went outside. Later, C. left, and J. allegedly hurled words at him. The Judge indicated there is a witness K., who told Police he saw C. embrace J. and his hand moved behind J.’s back. J. then told him to stop touching her. The Judge noted that Police interrogated C., who said he was drunk, remembered having an argument, and felt embarrassed about it. The Judge asked what C. meant by feeling embarrassed. C. told the Judge he has two daughters and a partner, adding he would never do such a thing. He also mentioned he did not want his partner to think things that were not true.

Prosecutor The Prosecutor told the Judge he considers it proven that C. touched the woman J. The Prosecutor remarked that if C. was drunk, he should have kept his hands to himself rather than touching her. The Prosecutor requested 50 hours of community service and a 2-week suspended prison sentence with a 2-year probation period.

Defense attorney requested to hear witnesses Defense attorney Mr. Rosenstand believes the investigation was incomplete. The attorney stated that the Prosecutor accuses C. of grabbing the woman J.’s buttocks. The attorney remarked that it is strange for a police officer to allow someone to touch her in this manner. He noted that the woman J. stated to Police that she went to greet C. and gave him a kiss. Afterwards, she went to greet others and felt someone grab her buttocks, at which point she grabbed C. by the throat. In Mr. Rosenstand’s opinion, it could very well have been one of the other people J. went to greet who touched her, not C. The attorney highlighted that his client C. told Police he ran into his ex-girlfriend and did not touch her. The woman J. herself did not wish to file an official complaint against C., but rather requested police assistance for a drunk man. The attorney believes the witness did not see everything but merely heard from J. that C. allegedly touched her buttocks. The attorney pointed out that a witness called to testify failed to appear. This witness reportedly saw everything but does not wish to speak. The attorney feels there is no clarity on what actually happened. The attorney asked the Judge to hear the woman J. herself as a witness. He noted that the male witness G. mentioned by C. was not questioned by Police. The woman A., a witness mentioned by J. herself, did not give a statement. The attorney believes their statements would provide a clear picture of what really occurred. In Mr. Rosenstand’s view, failing to hear these witnesses prejudices C.’s defense. The attorney feels there is no indication that C. grabbed the woman J.’s buttocks and therefore C. should be acquitted.

Female officer to be interrogated The Judge adjourned the case to evaluate and returned. He stated that the Prosecutor is correct that supporting evidence exists, as a witness saw C. place his hand behind J.’s back and J. reacted with “don’t touch me.” The Judge said that out of all the witnesses requested by the attorney, he grants the request to hear the female officer J. as a witness. The Judge postponed further treatment of the case and instructed the Rechter-Commissaris to interrogate the woman J., at which Mr. Rosenstand may be present. Once the Rechter-Commissaris completes the interrogation, a report will be submitted to the Judge, who will set a date for the continuation of the case.
