Youth Social Training Program (SVT) Receives Berets at Suffisant Naval Barracks

Svt 1

Seven young people participating in the Social Training Program (SVT) “A New Beginning” at the Suffisant Naval Barracks have received their berets. At the beginning of March, this group of youths started the first phase of their training under the guidance of the Netherlands Armed Forces. Over a 15-week period, they worked in a military fashion on skills such as discipline, resilience, perseverance, and teamwork.

The group of young individuals received their well-deserved berets and certificates on Thursday, June 11, 2026. This took place during a brief ceremony attended by all involved parties.

Next Phase
Following this, the youth will begin the second phase, namely the work-learning program (LWT – Leerwerktraject), under the guidance of the executing organization Gwen Inspires & Co. In this phase, the young people will be further prepared for employment that aligns with their skills and talents. Through these two phases, the Government of Curaçao, together with the Armed Forces, offers future perspectives for these youths.

Establishing Cooperation
This project is being carried out within the framework of agreements between Curaçao and the Netherlands regarding reforms in the Country Package (Landspakket). This reform falls under theme ‘H18’ and is designated as a ‘Social Education Pathway’. The Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Social Development, Labor and Welfare (SOAW), the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports (OWCS), and the Ministry of Defense are all partners in this project.

A new SVT program will begin this coming August. Spaces are still available for those interested. If you are between 18 and 24 years old, you can send a WhatsApp message to +5999 5636656 for more information.
