The Playa Film Festival closed its sixth edition with an awards ceremony. The award for best international short film went to France with the fiction film The Brittle Little Ones. This film was part of the online film competition that received public votes. Another winner from the online presentations was the short documentary Mision Brio, directed by Ephrayim Odor. This year’s School Short Story award went to Maria College Mavo for their story about the Hooiberg. The Kingdom of Shorts public award was won by Hobi, a short fiction film directed by Aramis Garcia Gonzalez. The jury prize for Kingdom of Shorts went to Fort Buku by Loëlle Monsanto. The closing night culminated with the presentation of the ‘Ola di Grandeza’ award, a prize that recognizes dedication and honors those who have made a cultural impact and contributed to the development of a local film industry. Rebecca Roos received the award for her 30 years of contribution to Aruba’s identity in the documentary and cinematographic field. Registration for consideration to participate in the Playa Film Festival 2027 is now open. For the seventh edition, the online competition with public voting will accept films up to 5 years old. Films that have been publicly shown but have never been screened in Playa are also eligible. In 2027, the CINEARUBA foundation will celebrate 10 years since it started open-air screenings. Next year, there will be free public screenings in Caya Grandi in Playa and in various neighborhoods. For these screenings, they are looking for comedy or family films no older than 2 years that have not yet been presented at the Playa Film Festival. The Kingdom of Shorts with jury and public awards will be back and will accept films no older than 2 years that have not yet been publicly screened in Aruba.
