A sad situation: The largest party, AVP, has to go down on its knees to submit a motion to obtain approval to appoint a minister plenipotentiary

Dangui Oduber 1

Under the AVP–FUTURO government, Aruba is experiencing embarrassment. First, the formation of the government took an excessively long time, marked by power struggles and political maneuvering for positions and control. After ten months, the ministerial portfolios were finally formalized based on the LIM law, despite the Council of Advice strongly advising against it. Even now, Aruba still does not have a Minister Plenipotentiary in the Netherlands to represent the country—an outright embarrassment for Aruba.

The AVP–FUTURO government is a national embarrassment, but also an international one. In Aruba’s political history, it has never happened that the country is left without a dignified representative in the Netherlands. According to parliamentarian Dangui Oduber, this has never occurred since 1986. One may even question whether the AVP–FUTURO government is already operating under the HOFA Kingdom Act model without approval from the people of Aruba.

Parliamentarian Dangui Oduber considers this a disgrace in Aruba’s political history, stating that the two-headed FUTURO party is causing serious damage to both the AVP party and the people of Aruba.

On top of that, Minister Gerlien Croes is described as acting out of personal resentment, allowing personal anger to harm an Aruban citizen who could have been appointed as Minister Plenipotentiary in the Netherlands. Minister Croes claimed that, for financial reasons, a Minister Plenipotentiary would not be appointed because it would cost Aruba too much money. This, however, is described as a lie and a slap in the face of Parliament and, more importantly, the people of Aruba.

One may even question whether Minister Gerlien Croes seeks power in order to exercise control over citizens in Aruba.
