AICESIS permanent representative to UN visits SER Curaçao

Sociaal Economische Raad

Dr. Hanifa D. Mezoui, the Permanent Representative of the International Association of Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions (AICESIS) with observer status at the United Nations Social and Economic Council (ECOSOC) in New York, paid a courtesy visit to the Social and Economic Council (SER) of Curaçao on Friday, January 12, 2024.

Since November last year, when the SER assumed the presidency of AICESIS, he has been committed to increasing international cooperation and dialogue. During this important gathering, dr. Mezoui shared her insights on global challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the climate crisis, and geopolitical tensions. ECOSOC’s theme for 2024, aimed at accelerating the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), was discussed. Special attention was paid to eradicating poverty, promoting climate action, and strengthening international cooperation.

The High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, scheduled for July this year at the UN headquarters in New York, will focus on assessing the progress of these goals. Dr. Mezoui’s visit underscores the importance of multilateral cooperation in addressing global issues.

The meeting also looked ahead to the September 2024 SDG Summit in New York, which will serve as a platform for strengthening global commitment to multilateralism. This summit, with the theme “Multilateral Solutions for a Better Future,” will result in “A Pact for the Future.” This action-oriented document aims to accelerate SDG progress, address emerging challenges, and strengthen global governance and human rights.

The prominent role of the Curaçao ESC as chair of AICESIS in these international dialogues highlights its commitment to contributing to global prosperity and sustainable development.
