A dangerous situation was reported during a sea swimming event when a yacht entered an area where swimmers, kayaks, and signal buoys were present.
According to witnesses, the yacht, identified as Midnight Sun, entered the zone at a speed considered high, creating a risky situation for participants in the water. Those present indicated that, as a captain, it would be expected for the vessel to reduce speed and take the necessary precautions when passing near an organized maritime event.
Witnesses expressed that the situation nearly resulted in a serious accident, as one of the swimmers could have been directly affected by the yacht’s trajectory.
Members of the Open Water team, who were present to coordinate and ensure safety during the event, approached the captain to explain that an event was in progress. According to witnesses, the captain’s reaction was considered inappropriate and defensive.
A group of adults present at the event clearly expressed their disapproval of how the situation was handled. Irresponsible behavior at sea not only endangers lives but also sends a negative message to the community, especially to young people.
The maritime community reminds everyone that respecting signage, reducing speed near swimmers, and cooperating with event organizers are fundamental to preventing accidents and keeping the sea a safe place for everyone.
Authorities are encouraged to continue strengthening control measures and awareness regarding maritime safety on the island.
