Transparency and Public Tenders: The Member of Parliament mentions that the meeting on May 11th has the lack of transparency on the part of the minister as its main topic. Special focus is placed on the public tender process for educational materials (school materials).
Publication of Decisions: Endy Croes recalls that since February 2025, there has been an ordinance (verordening) in effect that obliges all Ministers to officially publish their decisions. According to the MP, this is not happening properly in this case.
The Private Jet Travel Case The MP connects the current lack of transparency with an incident that took place last year:
- The Trip: There have been unanswered questions since November regarding a trip the Minister made in a private jet.
- Contradiction in Statements: The MP points out that the Minister informed Parliament that the trip was “private.” However, official documents show that decisions were taken within the Council of Ministers (Ministerraad) regarding this trip.
- Hotel Costs: Documentation indicates that the Council of Ministers approved a sum of 1,000 Florins per day for hotel expenses for the Minister and her advisor.
- Demand for Receipt: Croes insists that the Minister present the receipt for the trip. He emphasized that a trip approved by the Council of Ministers cannot be considered a “private” matter, and therefore, a structural account must be given to Parliament.
Conclusion The MP underlines that total transparency is essential, both for the travel case and for the school material tenders. This is necessary to comply with the rules of Aruba’s democratic system.
