On Sunday, July 20th, Deventer artist GN (www.gustavenouel.nl) from Aruba, a crowd-puller, will once again share his well-known ODE TO REMBRANDT painting performance with the public at the Grote Kerkhof square, next to the Lebuïnus Church and across from Deventer City Hall. In the heart of Deventer….
For his ‘ODE TO REMBRANDT’ painting performance, which GN has also shared internationally in the past, he still regularly receives invitations from various countries. GN’s ODE TO REMBRANDT thus continues to attract international attention.
Organizer Paul Moerkerken of the ‘Art and Culture at the IJssel’ Foundation aims to transform the Grote Kerkhof into a square like Place du Tertre in Montmartre, Paris, or like the artist squares in other global cities or important tourist places. He aims to create a new platform for all artists in Deventer, encompassing all art disciplines. This “special art activity” even included a ‘structural’ ODE TO REMBRANDT painting-performance project by an Aruban artist, using universal street painting techniques, inspired by the most famous portrait painter of all time, Rembrandt van Rijn. (https://kreolmagazine.com/culture/art/gustave-nouel-a-modern-art-virtuoso/). This seems perfectly in line with the organizer’s ambition.
The ‘Art and Culture at the IJssel’ Foundation is offering a special platform to renowned Deventer artist Gustave Nouel (from Aruba) with his ODE TO REMBRANDT painting-performance… A special platform, together with members of the artists’ association DAK (https://www.deventeramateurkunstenaars.nl/), where GN (with his postgraduate training) mentors regional artists of all levels. The Aruban artist also shares his experience and expertise as an international street portrait artist and painter with these DAK artists. Artists of all levels who are passionate about art, from aspiring artists to art teachers and academic artists, are members of DAK, where Gustave and other selected, recognized, and well-known artists/teachers mentor members in various techniques. The artists’ association DAK approached Gustave as a mentor/teacher a few years ago, primarily because of his street portraits. In his younger years, the Aruban artist gained extensive experience on the streets and squares of various countries, among street artists and street painters from all over the world. In recent years, he has also been sharing ‘universal secrets’ and ‘tricks’ of street artists with interested artists at Kunstcircuit, the main Cultural Centre of the region. In the Lebuïnus Church, next to the GROTE KERKHOF square, there is also an exhibition of DAK artists until August 3rd. GN, as a supervisor/ at DAK, will also be exhibiting a life-size painting ‘curiously’ entitled: MY ODE TO REMBRANDT…
