The Government of Aruba has officially launched the “National Day to Care for Aruba” initiative, a national campaign inviting all citizens, businesses, schools, organizations, and the community to join forces in caring for our island. The initiative will culminate with a major national cleanup action on Saturday, July 25, in every corner of Aruba.
The announcement was made during a press conference at Dam di Moko by Prime Minister Mike Eman, accompanied by the Minister of Tourism, Transport, and Labor, Wendrick Cicilia, Serlimar Director Michel Henriquez, CEDE Aruba Director Daniel Tecklenborg, representatives from DOW, and various partners involved in the initiative.
In his statement, Prime Minister Mike Eman indicated that the national action is the next step in the efforts the Government has been making for over a year to strengthen the care of neighborhoods and public spaces. “On July 25, we want all of Aruba to step out of their homes, their neighborhoods, their companies, their clubs, or their organizations to take responsibility together for keeping our island clean.” The Prime Minister recalled that the Government has already introduced various initiatives such as Baki den Bario, the permanent Waste Zone in Barcadera, and that a second permanent point for the community will soon be established, thanks to the collaboration between the Government and Serlimar.
It was also announced that Ecotech will contribute to the national action by accepting, at no cost, waste delivered to the permanent site in Barcadera on the day of the national action. According to Eman, this collaboration is an important contribution to facilitate the participation of the community and the commercial sector. During the press conference, the Prime Minister emphasized that the daily work of DOW, Serlimar, the Bureau City Inspector, and other bodies is not enough to keep Aruba clean. According to him, the challenge must be shared by the entire community. “This action is to demonstrate that we are all willing to shoulder a part of the responsibility of caring for our country. Aruba is ours. If we all contribute, we can preserve an island that is great to live in and great to visit.”
The Prime Minister noted that over the past few weeks, the Government has also met with different stakeholders in the Common Good platform, appealing to neighborhood organizations, NGOs, foundations, and various community groups to organize their own actions on July 25.
As a symbol of the potential Aruba has when the community and the Government work together, the press conference took place at Dam di Moko, where DOW has already begun cleanup work. According to Eman, with a shared effort, the area can become an attractive place for recreation.
The Government calls on all citizens to participate actively on Saturday, July 25. In different points around Aruba, bins will be available to drop off waste, making it easier for families, clubs, and organizations to be part of this major national action.
With the motto “For me. For you. For all of us,” the Government invites all of Aruba to join forces and make the National Day to Care for Aruba an expression of pride, responsibility, and love for our island.
