The MAN-PIN faction in Parliament has submitted an official request to the President of Parliament to organize a Public Meeting with the central theme: government policy regarding the accessibility of Curaçao’s beaches to the public.
MAN-PIN states that beaches are part of our natural wealth and culture, and must remain accessible to everyone in Curaçao. The faction expresses its great concern over the trend of commercialization and privatization of beaches, where the public increasingly feels that free access is becoming more limited.
In the request, MAN-PIN points out that many local families face obstacles to enjoying the beaches in the traditional way due to high costs, excessive use of beach chairs and commercial facilities, and situations where parts of the beach are primarily reserved for tourists. According to the faction, the beach cannot become a luxury for only those who can afford it; instead, it must remain a public space for recreation, sports, health, and family bonding.
The faction is also calling for more transparency regarding contracts and beach management agreements between the government and the private sector. The public has a right to know what the conditions are and how free access to our beaches is being guaranteed.
MAN-PIN has requested that the Minister of Traffic, Transport, and Urban Planning, along with the minister responsible for Environment and Nature, be present during the public meeting to provide clarity on the government’s vision and policy.
For MAN-PIN, our beaches belong to our people. We must protect accessibility, inclusivity, and the right of every person to enjoy the sea without financial barriers or excessive privatization.
