The AVP-FUTURO administration is not transparent with our People. To this day, ministers have not provided complete or concrete information regarding the content and consequences of HOFA.
Prime Minister Mike Eman is absent from the public discussion. While the People are looking for explanations, he spends weeks in the Netherlands with a large delegation, promoting that Aruba must accept HOFA without having an honest dialogue with our own community.
Minister of Finance, Geoffrey Wever, meets with sectors behind closed doors and only speaks on the financial aspect. But HOFA is not just about money; it has a serious constitutional impact that directly affects Aruba’s autonomy and our right to make our own decisions.
Minister of Kingdom Relations, Gerlien Croes, has also not held press conferences or public meetings to inform the People about the real implications of HOFA. The minister uses Facebook to attack the opposition and share selective information that does NOT give a full view of the situation, and most of the time, consists of erroneous information.
The People of Aruba cannot be asked to accept something so important without transparency, without participation, and without honest information. Our dignity, autonomy, and destiny cannot be traded for financial promises alone.
Good governance begins with transparency, respect for the People, and open dialogue—and ALL of this is precisely what is currently lacking.
