Parliamentarian Eduard Pieters represents the PPA faction in the Netherlands: “Our autonomy is non-negotiable.”

Parliamentarian Eduard Pieters of the Partido Patriotico Arubano (PPA) is currently in The Hague, the Netherlands, together with other parliamentary colleagues, to participate in a series of important meetings related to the future of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Kingdom Law on Financial Supervision.

According to Pieters, the trip has two essential goals: becoming acquainted with the new members of the Dutch Parliament after the elections, and reaffirming the firm position of the PPA regarding Aruba’s autonomy and self-determination. “It is a crucial moment to establish contacts, exchange ideas, and bring the voice of Aruba forward in a dignified and constructive manner,” Pieters stated.

PPA advocates for dialogue on the Kingdom Law on Financial Supervision

Since last September, the PPA faction has submitted a Minority Note to both local stakeholders and the Dutch House of Representatives. This document presents concrete and realistic alternatives to ensure that Aruba can maintain responsible financial management without losing its autonomy. Today, during the first meeting of the Kingdom Commission – with representatives from Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten and the Netherlands present – Pieters again emphasized the content of this Minority Note. “We clearly repeated why financial supervision through a Kingdom Law is neither suitable nor appropriate for Aruba,” he said.

The meeting took place in a positive, constructive atmosphere with mutual respect. Songül Mutluer, Dutch MP for PvdA/GL and chair of the Committee on Kingdom Relations, presided over the session. “We succeeded in having an honest dialogue based on respect. We brought to the table not only criticism, but also concrete solutions for a sustainable financial future for Aruba,” Pieters declared.

PPA: Building relationships and defending national dignity

Today in The Hague is described as historic, as it marks the first time the PPA faction has been able to physically and directly present its position within the Kingdom Commission after submitting the Minority Note. “We continue building bridges so that we do not lose our course. Our autonomy is non-negotiable, but we are clear that good cooperation and dialogue are the way forward for progress within the Kingdom,” Pieters emphasized.

According to the parliamentarian, the PPA has several upcoming meetings scheduled with various Dutch political parties that share similar views on social justice and responsible autonomy. “The conversations show promise. It takes time, but the process is moving in the right direction. We are succeeding in making Aruba’s voice heard, and the word ‘autonomy’ remains our genuine commitment,” Pieters concluded.

Finally, the PPA faction, through its representative Eduard Pieters, delivers a clear message:
“Aruba is a small country, but with a great people full of courage and dignity. We are part of the Kingdom, but we are not subordinate. PPA will continue to defend the principles of equality, respect and self-determination for a future of stability and progress for Aruba,” Pieters said in closing.
