Arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol
Over the past weekend, police arrested four (4) drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol.
On Monday, June 22, around 1:15 AM, a 28-year-old man with initials D.H.E.W. was arrested on Kaya Shoshori. The suspect crashed his pickup truck into a parked car and stated that he was on his phone while driving. In accordance with the “collision is blowing” (botsen is blazen) policy, a breathalyzer test was administered, which revealed that he had consumed more alcohol than legally permitted. He was handed a 1-hour driving ban.
On Saturday, June 20, around 8:30 PM, a 33-year-old woman with initials R.S. was arrested on Bulevar Gobernador N. Debrot. The suspect crashed her pickup truck into the back of another car. In accordance with the “collision is blowing” policy, a breathalyzer test was administered to both drivers, revealing that the suspect had consumed more alcohol than legally permitted. She received a 4-hour driving ban.
On Saturday, June 20, around 4:00 AM, a 50-year-old man with initials B.H.A. was arrested on Kaya Papa Cornes. A patrol ordered the driver to stop for a routine check. During the check, the suspect exhibited several characteristics of a person under the influence of alcohol. A breathalyzer test was administered, showing that he had consumed more alcohol than legally permitted. He was arrested and taken to the police station. Once there, the suspect refused to comply with the requirements to successfully complete the breath test.
On Saturday, June 20, around 1:20 AM, a 24-year-old man with initials M.E. was arrested in the downtown area (Centrumgebied). A patrol pulled the driver over for inspection after noticing he was driving his vehicle without lights and displaying dangerous driving behavior. During the check, the suspect showed several signs of being under the influence of alcohol. A breathalyzer test was administered, revealing he had consumed more alcohol than legally permitted. His driver’s license was confiscated.
All suspects were transported to the police station for further corresponding legal procedures, where they will also receive a official report (proces-verbal).
Arrest for assault, property damage, and threats
On Saturday, June 20, around 1:20 AM, a 27-year-old man with initials S.M.I. was arrested on Kaya Nikiboko Nort. The suspect assaulted and threatened several people. Additionally, he destroyed their property. The investigation into this case is ongoing.
Planned traffic controls
During the morning hours of Friday, June 19, police conducted traffic controls on Kaya Internashonal. During the control, eighteen (18) vehicles were stopped and checked, resulting in several fines.
The fines were issued for the following violations:
3x for driving without a valid driver’s license;
1x for driving without valid insurance;
1x for driving with an uncovered cargo;
1x for driving without a rear license plate.
During the afternoon hours of Friday, June 19, a traffic control was held at Kaya Barakuda. Various vehicles were stopped and checked, and one driver received a fine for driving without a driver’s license.
In the late afternoon of Friday, June 19, the Dutch Caribbean Police Force (KPCN), in cooperation with the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee (KMar) and Customs, held a planned traffic control on Kaya Internashonal and Kaya Amsterdam. The objective of the control was to improve traffic safety and to check for the transport of prohibited items. Additionally, a laser gun was used to measure the speed of approaching vehicles. During this operation, several vehicles were stopped and checked, and seven (7) fines were issued.
The fines were issued for the following violations:
3x for exceeding the maximum speed limit of 40 km/h;
2x for driving without valid insurance;
1x for driving without a valid driver’s license;
1x for driving without a front license plate.
