In an extremely strong statement, PPA Faction Leader Eduard Pieters questioned the morality of the current government in the face of the economic crisis. Pieters indicated that the leaders are “shameless abusers,” arguing that they are “enjoying” the weakness of a people who continue to receive increase after increase without any concrete steps to ease this pain.
The “Free Advice” from the Commercial Sector Pieters brought forward a proposal publicly presented by the respected merchant, Mr. Saladin. According to Pieters, this is “free advice” that the Government must implement immediately to curb inflation:
- Elimination of BBO on Freight: To prevent the increase in international transport costs from being transferred to the final price, PPA proposes not to charge BBO on that portion.
- No BBO on Import Duties: By reducing this fiscal burden, the merchant will have fewer extra expenses to “pass back” into the price of products.
- Instructions to Customs: Pieters emphasizes that as the executive power, the Government has the authority to instruct Customs to stop charging these taxes on import costs.
Threat of a Global Recession PPA leader Eduard Pieters recalled that there is a probability of between 30% to 48% that a global recession could be declared soon. With this outlook, where the cost of living is already a massive burden, the lack of action from the Minister of Finance and the Prime Minister is qualified as total irresponsibility.
“I cannot think of another name for you; when you enjoy the weakness of a people, you are abusers,” Pieters declared, insisting that Parliament must hold the ministers accountable for the lack of a mitigation plan.
