FLP contributed to the “Casa de Colombia” project of the Colombian Consulate
In June 2025, the Colombian Consulate approached Mr. Carlos Croes, Vice President of the Fundacion Lanta Papiamento (FLP), with a request to organize a basic Papiamento course for Colombian immigrants as part of their integration process.
This course formed part of the “Casa de Colombia” project, which planned various cultural activities for Colombian immigrants.
It goes without saying that Fundacion Lanta Papiamento accepted this request, and two of its members who are certified Papiamento teachers, Mrs. Melina van der Linden (Bach.Ed.) and Mr. Cesar Kelly (MEd.), prepared and delivered the course.
The course started on September 1, 2025, and concluded on December 8, 2025. A total of 29 participants graduated. All of them expressed their desire to continue to a higher level of Papiamento proficiency.
According to teachers Van der Linden and Kelly, the participants were highly motivated and fully completed all assignments. They entered the course with little to no knowledge of Papiamento, and by the end they were able to speak and hold understandable conversations in Papiamento.
The FLP board congratulates the participants on their perseverance and achievement. There is a strong possibility that FLP will organize one or two follow-up courses for this group.
