There is strong criticism from various sectors of society directed at the current AVP–FUTURO coalition government, with some voices expressing concern about the political direction Aruba is taking.
History has shown that whenever AVP, and now FUTURO is in government, certain decisions do not always turn out to be beneficial for Aruba development. Although the people have given their trust for governance, some recent political decisions have created disappointment among parts of the community.
A central point of criticism is that important decisions are being made without sufficient consultation or communication with the people and the Parliament of Aruba. This has contributed to a sense of division within society.
Additionally, recent political symbols and actions have been interpreted by some as signs of disunity and concern regarding the country’s direction. Critics emphasize the importance of greater transparency, dialogue, and public participation in the decision-making process.
The current situation reflects a climate of political tension, where differing opinions are emerging on how Aruba should move forward in its relationship with the Netherlands and in its internal development as a country. As the AVP flag is currently raised at the party headquarters, critics argue that the AVP–FUTURO government is keeping the Aruban people “’upside down,” creating division within the community in order to maintain stability with the Netherlands, and effectively “handing over” Aruba through HOFA in exchange for a sum of money whose purpose remains unclear funds that, according to critics, Aruba does not truly need.
