In commemoration of Earth Day, the Aruba Hotel & Tourism Association (AHATA) and its Environmental Committee organized a successful cleanup of the island’s coastlines and roadsides, featuring participation from 17 member companies. On April 22, over 500 volunteers dedicated their time to this effort. The global goal of Coastal Cleanup Day is to raise awareness regarding marine debris and coastal pollution, which threaten our natural environment.

The participating member companies included: SETAR, Hyatt Regency Resort Spa & Casino, La Cabana Beach Resort & Casino, TRYP by Wyndham Aruba, Eagle Aruba Resort, Casiola Vacation Homes, JOIA Aruba by Iberostar, Guardian Group, Aruba Marriott Complex, Aruba Airport Authority, Boardwalk Boutique Hotel Aruba, Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort, Renaissance Wind Creek Aruba Resort, RIU Palace Antillas, Barceló Aruba, Amsterdam Manor Beach Resort, and Secrets Baby Beach Aruba.

The cleanup spanned multiple areas, including Bucutiweg, Eagle Beach to the Butterfly Farm, Boca Catalina, Tres Trapi, Malmok, Hadicurari Beach, Bushiri, Governor’s Bay Beach to Surfside Beach, Mangel Halto, Santo Largo, and lands adjacent to L.G. Smith Boulevard. A vast array of waste was collected, primarily single-use plastics such as bottles, cigarette butts, fast-food containers, and diapers. Additionally, heavy items were recovered, including scrap metal, construction materials, garden waste, refrigerators, washing machines, and tires.

AHATA expresses its sincere gratitude to all volunteers for their dedication and profound care for Aruba’s well-being. The association hopes this initiative encourages the community to be more mindful of waste disposal and to stop littering in natural or public spaces.
