Minor driver stopped by police

During the evening hours of Tuesday, December 30, around 7:45 p.m., a police patrol observed a car with five occupants near a hospitality establishment on Kaya Korona. The driver appeared to be very young, prompting the patrol to stop the vehicle for a routine check.

During the inspection, it was determined that the driver was a 16-year-old minor. As a result, he did not possess a valid driver’s license and also presented an invalid insurance policy. The minor driver was taken to the police station, where his parents were also summoned. The seriousness of the situation was explained to both the minor and his parents. The minor stated that he had rented the vehicle for one day.

Police warn against dangerous fireworks behavior during the New Year period

In the period leading up to and during the New Year celebrations, the central dispatch center is currently receiving a large number of reports of disturbances and dangerous situations involving fireworks. The Caribbean Netherlands Police Force (KPCN) is observing a concerning trend in which children or young people are throwing fireworks at homes, vehicles, animals, and even at each other.

Throwing fireworks at people, vehicles, animals, or buildings is not only a criminal offense but also extremely dangerous. Such behavior can lead to serious physical injuries, including burns. In addition, fireworks can cause material damage and create fear and insecurity in neighborhoods.

The police urgently call on all parents and guardians to remain alert to their children’s activities.

  • Talk to your children: Discuss the dangers of fireworks and the consequences of irresponsible behavior.
  • Supervise: Know where your children are and what they are doing outdoors.
  • Responsibility: Be aware that parents can be held legally liable for damage caused by their minor children.

The police will conduct extra patrols during the New Year celebrations and will take strict action against fireworks-related misconduct. Individuals who engage in dangerous behavior or vandalism risk arrest or confiscation of the fireworks.

Let’s keep the New Year celebrations safe and festive for everyone. If you see an unsafe situation, contact the police immediately by calling 911.
