In a festive atmosphere filled with friendship, cooperation, and Caribbean pride, Aruba and Curaçao celebrated an important step in their historical relationship following the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) focused on tourism, connectivity, tourism security, and sustainable development.

The special event brought together government representatives, key actors in the tourism industry, and guests to commemorate the increasingly strong relationship between the two sister islands, united by shared history, culture, and a common vision for the future.

The evening began with welcoming remarks from the CEO of the Aruba Ports Authority (APA), Marc Figaroa, followed by speeches from the President of Parliament, Marlon Sneek, the AVP Faction Leader, Jennifer Arends-Reyes, the Minister of Tourism, Transport, and Labor, Wendrick Cicilia, and the Minister of Economic Development of Curaçao, Roderick Middelhof. During their speeches, they highlighted the importance of regional cooperation, connectivity between the islands, and the value of continuing to build upon the special relationship that Aruba and Curaçao have shared for generations.

The recent Memorandum of Understanding between Aruba and Curaçao marks a shared commitment to strengthen cooperation in areas such as tourism, air and maritime connectivity, tourism promotion, tourism security, sustainability, knowledge exchange, and economic development.

One of the most memorable moments of the evening was the spectacular video mapping presentation dedicated to Curaçao and its participation in the FIFA World Cup. Projected onto the APA tank, the visual experience illuminated the night with images and symbols honoring the historic achievement of our sister island on the world stage.

The presentation not only celebrated football, but also the pride, perseverance, and unity that Aruba and Curaçao share as two islands with deep-rooted bonds in the Caribbean.

Minister Wendrick Cicilia emphasized the importance of continuing to work together to create new opportunities for both islands.

“Aruba and Curaçao share much more than geographical proximity. We share history, culture, friendship, and a commitment to keep moving our people forward. This cooperation represents the conviction that when we work together, we are stronger and we can achieve more for our communities.”

The evening concluded with a message of unity and collaboration, highlighting that although both islands have their own unique identity, there are many opportunities to continue working together to benefit our region and our people.
