In the Parliament of Aruba, a meeting was held to discuss the budgets of the Council of Advice, the Ombudsman, the General Audit Chamber, and the Parliament of Aruba. Member of Parliament Rocco Tjon stated that parliamentarians carry a great responsibility: they must ensure that the laws being approved are well aligned, protect the interests of the people, oversee the government, and safeguard Aruba’s democracy from being undermined.
However, a parliamentarian can only do this work properly if there is an independent and professional institution in place. According to Tjon, this is exactly where the role of the Council of Advice becomes crucial. The Council of Advice is not just any body within our constitutional system; rather, it provides stability and evaluates whether proposed legislation is well-constructed, offers sound advice, and protects Aruba.
The Council of Advice examines whether a law is solid, whether it respects the Constitution, whether it is financially responsible, and ultimately provides advice on whether the law is good for Aruba.
