The faction leader of the AVP, Jennifer Reyes, elaborated on an important meeting that took place within the Council of State (Raad van State) in the Netherlands. During this meeting, which also included input from Andy Lee, the delegation deeply analyzed the advice issued by the highest advisory body regarding the kingdom law proposal, Rijkswet HOFA.
Reyes explained that the meeting provided space to debate the most valuable points of this advice, focusing on the future of kingdom relations and the financial-constitutional situation of Aruba.
One of the most relevant points brought forward by the faction leader is the need for the Government of Aruba to take action. According to Reyes, the Council of State’s advice contains key recommendations that the Government must use as a solid tool to go back and renegotiate with the Netherlands, and to work on them properly. Furthermore, the discussion centered around how this moment can be used to reinforce Aruba’s own institutions and evaluate the island’s current situation from a structural perspective.
Given the importance of the matter, Reyes also addressed the Parliament of Aruba, indicating that the legislative body has a crucial role to play in reviewing these points. She emphasized the need to enter this discussion with a “broad view”—meaning a panoramic, unified, and open perspective—to ensure that Aruba can structurally benefit to the maximum from this process.
“This advice is of utmost importance,” Reyes concluded, reiterating that the faction will continue to monitor this development closely to safeguard the country’s interests.
