Department of Social Work and Development Public Conversation: Innovative Solutions to Poverty in Aruba, Latin America and the Caribbean

The Department of Social Work and Development in the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Aruba is pleased to invite the public to a conversation on the topic: “Innovative Solutions to Poverty in Aruba, Latin America, and the Caribbean.” The event will take place on Thursday, June 12, 2025, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Biblioteca Nacional Aruba.

This event is part of the Framing Social Problems and Solutions Photo Exposition, a student-led initiative within the Latin America and Caribbean Social Issues course in the Bachelor’s program for Social Work and Development. As part of their coursework, students explore social issues in Aruba and the region, applying sociological theories to understand root causes and propose sustainable solutions. Selected photographs representing poverty will be on display during the public conversation.

Objectives of the Public Conversation
Explore the root causes of poverty
Discuss innovative approaches to poverty reduction
Highlight the roles of government, CEDE Aruba, community organizations, youth initiatives, and citizen engagement
Inspire Social Work students to take an active role in addressing poverty
