During a recent institutional gathering at Quinta del Carmen, the new Dutch representative for Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten, Gerbert Kunst, shared his perspective on the importance of good governance both in Aruba and in the Netherlands.

Kunst indicated that he is pleased to be present in Aruba and explained that the role of the Dutch representation in the Caribbean countries of the Kingdom is to maintain direct contact with political and administrative developments. According to Kunst, the presence of a Dutch representative in Aruba makes it easier for the Netherlands to closely follow the steps taken by the Government of Aruba and the official positions the country adopts.

Importance of Good Governance

During his statement, Kunst emphasized that good governance is a shared responsibility. According to him, both the Government of Aruba and the Netherlands have an important role in ensuring responsible and transparent governance.

The Dutch representative also mentioned the role of organizations such as VNO, which according to him are important in listening to and representing the voice of the business and civil community. Kunst stated that the participation of different sectors of the community contributes to strengthening the foundation for effective governance.

Conversation about the LIM

During the meeting, the topic of the Landsbesluit Inrichting Ministeries (LIM) was also addressed. According to Kunst, he was not aware that the process regarding the LIM had still not been fully completed after approximately one year of governance.

This remark arose during an informal conversation with members of the press, where the current institutional situation and the importance of having clarity in the structuring of ministries and governmental portfolios were discussed.

According to observers, the issue of the LIM remains an important point in the current political debate, as it determines how ministerial portfolios are distributed and how responsibilities within the government are organized. At the moment that the LIM is still not completely in order, there is significant discussion about how the AVP–FUTURO government is managing the structuring of ministries.
