ORANJESTAD / ARUBA, January 4, 2026 – Following a press conference and a meeting with leaders of Parliament, Prime Minister Mike Eman confirmed that there are no indications that Aruba is in a critical situation due to the recent developments between Venezuela and the United States. According to the government, daily life in Aruba can continue as normal and there is no reason for panic.
The Government of Aruba received information early this morning and activated the relevant stakeholders, including consultations with the Council of Ministers of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, to assess the situation and take the necessary precautions. According to the Prime Minister, some information shared with Parliament cannot be made public due to protocol reasons.
Flights between Aruba and the United States have been canceled until further notice, and the situation is being closely monitored. However, the government emphasized that neither Aruba nor the Kingdom of the Netherlands is a party to the conflict and that precautionary measures are being taken solely due to Aruba’s geographic proximity to Venezuela.
Prime Minister Eman stressed that Aruba is well prepared. All departments and institutions are aware of their responsibilities, and there are sufficient reserves of food and fuel. The government urged the community not to panic or engage in excessive buying, as there is no need to do so.
The government is also working on a system to maintain contact with Arubians abroad, including those affected by flight cancellations, in order to assist them with information and their return to Aruba.
Aruba’s airport reported that Avianca flight 242 has been canceled and advised passengers to contact their airline for rebooking. In addition, several flights are experiencing delays, including those operated by American Airlines, Delta, JetBlue, United Airlines, and KLM.
The government concluded that, at this time, Aruba can remain calm and that all normal activities can continue without interruption.
