Member of Parliament Eduard Pieters shared his experience following a working visit to the European Parliament in Brussels, describing the meeting as a highly productive, educational, and important experience for the future of Aruba. According to Pieters, the delegation had the opportunity to get a closer look at how the European Parliament functions and how important decisions are made for European countries.
Constructive meeting with MEP
One of the most important moments was the meeting with Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Marit Maij, a member of the GroenLinks-Partij van de Arbeid (GreenLeft-Labour Party Alliance). According to Pieters, the conversation was characterized by an open, constructive exchange focused on concrete opportunities for Aruba. During the meeting, various topics were addressed, including how Aruba and the European Union can strengthen their relations, improve mutual communication, and explore new opportunities for cooperation.
Opportunities for Aruba
A central point of the meeting was the possibility for Aruba to continue utilizing and expanding its use of European funds. Pieters particularly highlighted the Erasmus+ program, which is already providing important opportunities for educational institutions in Aruba.
As a former education professional, Pieters expressed his satisfaction with how well Aruba is making use of the possibilities offered by the Erasmus+ program. According to Pieters, this type of initiative not only benefits students and teachers but also contributes to the broader development of the Aruban community.
Dialogue and cooperation
Pieters indicated that the meeting allowed for a valuable exchange of information from both sides. According to him, this dialogue is crucial for creating more mutual understanding and for continuing to identify concrete opportunities that can benefit Aruba.
“We exchanged good information so we can tighten our bonds and continue to look for ways to improve services and opportunities for Aruba,” Pieters commented.
An educational and productive visit
Despite the intense schedule and the long travel distance, Pieters concluded that the experience in Brussels was well worth it. According to Pieters, the meetings provided valuable knowledge and created space to further strengthen relations with European institutions.
“It was a long trip, but very productive and very educational. As a Parliament, we had the opportunity to learn, share, and work on opportunities that can benefit Aruba in the future,” Pieters concluded.
