A Royal Decoration is a special token of appreciation for individuals who have long worked for the well-being of society without self-interest. Whether it concerns efforts for neighborhoods, culture, nature, social groups, or organizations: these honors recognize the power of commitment and service to others.
During the annual ‘Lintjesregen’ (Ribbon Rain), three residents of Bonaire received a decoration this year for their exceptional contribution to the community:
- Maria Clarenda Clarinda – appointed Knight (Ridder) in the Order of Orange-Nassau.
- Suzette Maria Bergland-Balentin – appointed Knight (Ridder) in the Order of Orange-Nassau.
- Alyatte Aquilina Quirindoongo-Geertruida – appointed Member (Lid) in the Order of Orange-Nassau.
Island Governor John Soliano presented the decorations, emphasizing in his speech the importance of the willingness to work for the community’s well-being and the significance of solidarity. “Today we do not celebrate status, position, or self-interest. Today we celebrate something much more fundamental: dedication to others,” the Governor stated.
He further highlighted that in an era where individualism often takes center stage, the dedication of these honorees demonstrates the importance of looking out for one another and strengthening the community together.
