On January 29, 2026, the third neighborhood gathering for stakeholders of the Scharloo district took place at the office of Stichting Monumentenzorg Curaçao.

The neighborhood gathering was previously hosted by Corendon and by Securitas / Impacto, and aims to stimulate greater cohesion and information exchange within the district.

During the gathering, Monumentenzorg director Maghalie van der Bunt-George announced that the first steps have been taken toward establishing the Scharloo district organization, modeled after similar organizations in Punda, Otrobanda, and Pietermaai. This committee will act as a point of contact for the district in dealings with the government and will also initiate projects for the further development of Scharloo.

Van der Bunt-George highlighted several challenges and future prospects for Scharloo. She called on the attending representatives of local businesses and other stakeholders to continue working together toward a livable and safe district, where both residents and entrepreneurs can live and work with enjoyment.

Scharloo is our pride and, as part of Willemstad, is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This requires ongoing protection and our shared commitment to preserving this heritage. She specifically asked for attention to the neighborhoods of Fleur de Marie, Swaen, and St. Jago, which are located within Scharloo and where, according to the 2023 census, the highest percentage of families living below the poverty line is found.

The meeting provided ample opportunity for networking and connection, allowing attendees to meet one another and strengthen mutual ties. Chairman Herbert van der Woude also took the opportunity to express words of thanks to former Monumentenzorg director Marcel Dennert.

Stichting Monumentenzorg Curaçao looks back on a very successful evening and sees this as an important next step toward even stronger collaboration and the joint development of Scharloo.
