The event will take place from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the Renaissance Convention Center in Oranjestad. The morning promises to be a unique celebration of music, talent, and community.
Leerorkest Aruba, founded in 2019, is a social and educational music program inspired by the Dutch Leerorkest initiative. The project offers children the opportunity to learn a musical instrument during school hours and focuses on developing discipline, teamwork, and creativity. Currently, the program is active in four schools: Prinses Amalia School, Colegio Laura Wernet Paskel, St. Paulus School, and Graf von Zinzendorf School.
Throughout the school year, students have been working hard under the guidance of a team of passionate and professional music teachers. The upcoming concert is the result of months of rehearsals, commitment, and joy, many of the children will be performing in front of an audience for the very first time.
Also taking the stage are 60 students from Leerorkest Aruba’s After School Orkest, who rehearse weekly in locations across San Nicolas, Santa Cruz, and most recently Dakota.
The program includes well-known pieces such as Appel Cora, Dance Monkey, Three Little Birds, Believer, Seven Nation Army and We Will Rock You, with a special performance of Suave featuring a guest appearance
The concert will be conducted by Wouter Hakhoff, a long-time conductor with Leerorkest Nederland, who traveled from the Netherlands especially to lead this event.
Leerorkest Aruba also produces free online music lessons for all primary school levels (Kindergarten through Grade 6), which are broadcast on TeleAruba during school hours and available at www.leerorkestaruba.org. These lessons provide general music education, including rhythm, note reading, Aruban cultural elements, and sing-along activities.
The organization expresses its gratitude to the dedicated teachers, students, school staff, parents, and partners who make this program possible, as well as to all sponsors and supporters, including Renaissance Aruba, Palm Tours, Kini Kini Tours, Kibrahacha, Fofoti, Emco, Blue Harbour Group, VNO, the Ministry of Justice and Security (NL), Leerorkest Nederland, TeleAruba, Ennia, and Rotary Club Aruba.
