On Sunday night at approximately 11:58 p.m., Police Central Dispatch was notified of a fatal traffic accident on L.G. Smith Boulevard, near Wind Creek Casino. A black SUV struck two pedestrians and then fled the scene of the accident.
Police and ambulance services were dispatched with maximum urgency. Upon arrival of medical personnel, assistance was provided to both victims, but unfortunately they passed away at the scene.
Traffic specialists, a forensic doctor, and forensic police were present to begin the official investigation. The Victim Support Department also provided assistance to the families of the deceased.
After a search, police were able to locate the vehicle involved at an address in Bushiri. The driver, a woman, was detained for investigation.
Dr. Voskuil officially pronounced the deaths of:
- Josely Paulina Vasquez Gonzalez, born July 9, 1960, in the Dominican Republic, and
- Carlos David Vialez Valerio, born October 19, 1971, in the Dominican Republic.
This incident marks the first two traffic-related deaths of the year 2026. It is a very sad and tragic case that has shaken the community.
