History Will Speak: Protection or Betrayal , Who Is Truly on Aruba’s Side?

Aruba Nos Pais

One important truth that we as a people must never forget is this: history will always speak. It will not only tell who protected Aruba and who helped move the country forward, but it will also make clear who failed, who acted with double intentions, and who preferred negotiations behind closed doors instead of transparency for the benefit of all.

Aruba has a complex political and social trajectory, shaped by major decisions that have marked its development. In this process, there have been leaders who moved forward with vision and conviction, and others who, according to critics, did not always act with the clarity the people deserved. But in the end, history does not listen to propaganda or temporary speeches  history is based on facts and consequences.

This reflection becomes even more relevant at a time when Aruba is facing serious questions regarding current governance, financial management, and the direction of its national future. There are voices saying that there is a hidden reality, a path that could lead the country into a disastrous situation if there is no control and accountability. Others argue that the decisions being made today are necessary for stability and progress.

Within this context, former Prime Minister Nelson Orlando Oduber has publicly spoken several times to explain vision of the reality Aruba is experiencing today. According to Oduber, there are historical facts and past decisions that must be understood in order to properly evaluate the current situation. His interventions have sparked debate: some view Oduber as a defender of historical truth, while others question his interpretation of events and his explanation of a reality of which he himself was once a part.

What is clear is that the people have the right to know all information, without filters or hidden negotiations. Transparency should not be optional, but an obligation in a mature democracy.

Time will demonstrate who stood with Aruba and who stood with personal interests. The “plaque” of history will remain for the whole world to see and judge. Ultimately, history holds only one truth  and that truth will come to light, even if it takes time.

Aruba is at a crucial moment. More than ever, leadership, honesty, and responsibility are essential qualities. As always, time will speak.

There is tension within the community and a current total lack of trust in the AVP–FUTURO government regarding truth, reality, confidence, and respect for the people of Aruba. The supposed chain of slavery that the Netherlands allegedly removed for the Caribbean islands  was it truly removed? The “PUNT” and what lies behind it  could the developments taking place be connected to that PUNT? Is there a new system of slavery emerging, not through physical blows and violence, but through emotional, mental, and systemic pressure? How can we categorize the treatment of Aruba by the AVP–FUTURO government and the Netherlands?

Have current politicians demonstrated that they defend Aruba only with words, while in deeds and on paper that defense is minimal or perhaps not present at all?
