A total of 121 teachers and education staff across the island received these living gifts, offered through a joint initiative of STENAPA and the Statia Government. The gesture celebrated the dedication of educators while linking appreciation to the island’s ongoing reforestation and food sovereignty efforts.

By placing trees directly in the hands of those who nurture young minds, the initiative symbolised the connection between education, sustainability, and community wellbeing. The varieties of guava, mango, sugar apple, moringa, passionfruit, and flowering species such as July tree, Pride of Barbados, and Yellow Trumpet flower, will provide both nourishment and natural beauty. Over time, they will contribute to healthier diets, stronger ecosystems, and a greener island landscape.

This activity forms part of STENAPA’s “ReforeStatia” programme, supported through the Nature and Environmental Policy Plan (NEPP) of the Statia Government. The programme has already led to the planting of thousands of trees to restore biodiversity, protect soils, and enhance local food options.

By linking teacher appreciation to environmental action, the initiative reflects a shared vision of resilience, gratitude, and sustainable growth. As these trees take root across school grounds and home gardens, they will stand as living reminders of the vital role educators play in shaping Statia’s future.

The Statia Government and STENAPA extend heartfelt thanks to every educator for their continued dedication, guidance, and inspiration to the island’s next generation.
