Chair of the Finance Committee requests meeting to clarify interest-rate reduction benefits in proposed Rijkswet HOFA

The Chair of the Finance Committee of Parliament, Shailiny Tromp-Lee, has requested a formal meeting in Parliament so that the management of the Department of Finance of Aruba can provide clarification on the possible real benefits for Aruba if the country accepts the proposed Rijkswet HOFA.

According to Tromp-Lee, the meeting is necessary to give Parliament a detailed explanation of how the interest-rate reduction mentioned in the proposal would actually benefit Aruba. So far, she indicated, there is still a lack of clarity about the exact contents of the proposal.

The committee chair also expressed concern that the document related to the Rijkswet HOFA was submitted to the Rijksministerraad in the Netherlands without formal approval from the Parliament of Aruba and without broad consensus within the country. This situation has created uncertainty between the governments of Aruba and the Netherlands regarding the process and the possible implications for Aruba.

Tromp-Lee noted that several figures are circulating regarding the potential interest-rate reduction, but up to now none of this information has been officially confirmed. For this reason, the committee is seeking greater transparency in order to properly evaluate whether the measure would truly benefit Aruba and its people.

According to the chair of the Finance Committee, Parliament must receive complete and concrete information before taking any position on the proposal. The committee insists that the process must include an open discussion and a thorough evaluation of all financial implications for the country.

The requested meeting aims primarily to ensure that Parliament is fully informed about the situation and to clarify the possible effects of the interest-rate reduction mentioned in the proposed Rijkswet HOFA, and whether such a measure is truly necessary and beneficial for the country of Aruba.
