Gisele-Mireille Sint Jago (PP): The course of the procedure that Minister Ursell Arends wants to take is one that seems illegal

Gisele Mireille Sint Jago

The People’s First Party (PP) has been approached by residents in Parkietenbos weekend about the administrative irregularities taking place. It concerns Serlimar’s request for a “hindervergunning” permit for the remediation works of the Parkietenbos landfill and the alleged mismanagement by Minister of Nature Ursull Arends.

First of all, the course of the procedure that Minister Ursell Arends wants to take, is one that seems illegal, as the PP has been informed. As it chose not to choose the procedure whereby Raad van Advies could control the procedure and give advice. In addition, the petition lacks key information such as an extract from the Serlimar KVK and the painting on a scale of 1:250, the lack of guarantees for the health of the inhabitants (asbestos and dust), a financial guarantee and much more. Points that an integrated government cannot skip in its approach to such a large project.

Pueblo Prome Party also received a copy of the letter of objection addressed to DIP and our people’s representatives in Parliament. As a lawyer and human rights, health and environmental activist, Ms. Anouk Balentina, conducted a comprehensive legal investigation. An investigation into the application procedure, the technical content of the recovery plan and the legal basis necessary to provide this permit. In his letter of objection he even explained, demonstrated and informed all 21 MPs for the second time about their responsibilities and the legal tools they can use to come out in defense of the people.

It is inconceivable that to date no political/parliamentary party has demonstrated that it takes its role to protect the rights of people in general and specifically those who will be most affected by the dump recovery plan, seriously. As with the wind we have in Aruba, it will mean that a large part of the population of Aruba, including our tourists who are currently located all around Aruba, is in danger, creating an additional problem for the only economic pillar that Aruba has left: tourism.

In addition, Aruba does not recognize the Hoog College van Staat Ombudsman, although the Ombudsman Act was approved in September 2020. This means that the responsibility of each MP to act is much greater! The Partido Pueblo Prome, as a party outside the Parliament, will continue to do everything in its power to ensure that this case receives its due attention, will support the people and Mrs. Balentina in their struggle for health, environment and good governance. The PP will guarantee that the Minister of Nature and any other Minister involved in this case, which already shows itself to be a case of intentional misgovernment, will not fail to harm the inhabitants of the vicinity of Parkietenbos, the entire population of Aruba, our economy and the future of our children. We urge all of Aruba to participate in the signature action against the irresponsible management of Minister Ursul Arends for the rehabilitation of Parkietenbos by Serlimar.
