Member of Parliament Mike de Meza stated that, according to the thinking of all parties, Aruba’s autonomy is of utmost importance. However, some politicians are now making changes that place power in the hands of the Kingdom Council of Ministers.
This council includes more than twenty Dutch ministers and only one plenipotentiary minister from Aruba, who represents the island and can speak on its behalf. Unfortunately, Minister Gerlien Croes decided not to appoint a representative, effectively blocking Aruba’s ability to be defended in the Council.
According to De Meza, this means that Aruba is surrendering its financial autonomy to an institution that it cannot control and in which it has no voting rights.
